AMG’s response to District Gold win: “This ain’t our first rodeo.”
(SAN ANTONIO, TX) It also won’t be Anderson Marketing Group’s first trip to National ADDYs after winning gold in district competition. As the city’s oldest ad agency – and one of its largest, as well – they’ve found themselves in this situation numerous times in the past.
This year, however, they’ll be one of only two ad firms representing San Antonio in Nationals. And they’ll be riding there on the strength of a campaign created for the 2011 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. After ADDY wins for several clients at the local level earlier this year, Anderson went on to District 10 competition in Oklahoma City on April 16th. There, judges awarded the Gold ADDY to the Rodeo TV campaign – and picked one of the spots for a Silver ADDY in the individual TV category.
One 30-second spot featured Hall of Fame rodeo clown Leon Coffee playing miniature golf with a bull named Party Animal. Another spot – the individual silver winner – showed champion bareback rider Ryan Gray on a basketball court, playing a game of HORSE with a real horse named Ralph.
As their creative work proceeds to the highest level of competition, AMG marks another first: this will be the first year that publicity about the win goes out not only through traditional print and electronic media and web postings on their own site, but via AMG e-blasts, feeds to Twitter, Facebook and a full array of other social media sites. Notes agency president Kim Gresham: “We’ve spent more than a decade building websites and more recently touting the advantages of social media to our clients. It’s nice to follow our own advice and use these realms to let friends know how our work is faring in the competition.”
The Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation represents the affiliate advertising clubs and federations of the AAF in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The AAF is the only grassroots trade association to encompass all segments of the advertising industry, including advertisers, agencies, media, college chapters and national trade associations engaged in various advertising pursuits.
The ADDYs are the largest creative competition in the country, with over 40,000 local entries competing in 200 markets coast to coast. Winning an ADDY at the district level is the second step in competing for a National ADDY Award. Any entry that wins a Gold or Silver ADDY at the district level is eligible to advance and compete nationally. A panel of judges will choose national winners from over 1,500 finalists at the formal competition in Washington, D.C., on May 6-7. Those winners will then be officially presented at the National ADDY Awards Show in San Diego, CA, on June 4th – held in conjunction with the AAF National Conference.
